Nigeria vs Liberia review

As we all know, the World Cup is just over a year away. Nigeria sits at the top of their group, Group C. Central African Republic and Cape Verde, who are also in Group C, held themselves to a draw in their opening game.

The game between Nigeria and Liberia took place at the famous Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere, Lagos. Nigeria started the game really well, and raced into a two nil lead before the break. Leicester City’s out of favor striker, Kelechi Iheanacho scored both goals. The first was a nice left footed shot which beat the Liberian keeper at his near post. The second was a thing of beauty. The striker controlled the ball from the sky with his left, and reversed the ball into the corner with a right footed shot on the spin.

It’s only early days, but this Nigerian side put away an opponent convincingly for the first time in ages. I don’t think there will be any problems qualifying for the World Cup, however, these games should also serve as competitive preparation for next year’s AFCON.
