Tottenham vs Manchester City preview

Think back to almost a year ago when Tottenham defeated Manchester City 2-0, and went top of the Premier League and everything looked good. Fast forward 7 months and the team was without a manager. Jose Mourinho was sacked after getting knocked out of the Europa League and falling into mid-table. A new season is here and there’s hardly any optimism amongst the Tottenham faithful.

Tottenham will host Manchester City again at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium without Harry Kane, who wants a move to Manchester City. This doesn’t seem like good news for Tottenham fans, but the last time they didn’t have Kane against Manchester City was in the Champions League semi final, and they were successful.

Both Manchester City and Tottenham have won 2, lost 2, and drawn 1 of their 5 encounters. The last time a Tottenham-Manchester City game ended goalless was exactly 11 years ago. Sunday’s match will be the fourth time in 40 years these two teams have met on the opening day of the season with City yet to record a win. Manchester City are yet to score in Tottenham’s new stadium, a run of three games they’ll be looking to end on Sunday.

Finally, with Kane not likely to feature in tomorrow’s game against Manchester City, it is good to point out that Son Heung-min will. The Korean has scored six goals in all competitions against Manchester City and has scored in all three meetings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
